Children's Faith Formation

“Parents should initiate their children at an early age into the mysteries of the faith of which they are the ‘first heralds’ for their children.”

The call to be a Catholic parent—to nurture the faith in your child and to share it in your family—makes you the first herald of the gospel for your child. A parent walks with a child under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who directs the growth of each “in wisdom and age and grace.” The Faith Formation program for children at Immaculate Conception Church is intended to affirm and assist you in your efforts to share your faith with your children.

The goal of the program is to accompany you and your child on their faith journey. We do this through three interrelated aspects:

• Family Life...
  through Whole Community Catechesis (WCC) or intergenerational parish wide faith formation gatherings held periodically throughout the year.
   
• Prayer Life...
  through the religious instruction provided by the catechist using the Sadlier series We Believe and Pflaum Weekly Gospels; the scope and sequence of these programs reflect major faith statements, catechism connections, scripture, saints, and devotions.
   
• Church Life...
  through formal instruction concerning the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist which ordinarily begins in first grade and continues throughout a child's school year.

Immaculate Conception Church's Children's Faith Formation provides catechetical programs from Nursery through 5th grade where children deepen their understanding of faith, liturgy, sacraments, prayer, and liturgical seasons. The program also provides an opportunity for social activities, field trips and interaction within the community.

Our Nursery (birth through 3 years) is normally available every Sunday during the 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. liturgies.

Our Primary Children's Faith Formation (3 years through 1st grade) sessions are held Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Our Elementary Children's Faith Formation (Grades 2nd through 5th) are held Wednesday afternoon and evening from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

All Faith Formation sessions are held in the De Sales Faith Formation Center behind the church. Sessions are normally scheduled from September to May.
