Confirmation Preparation
Confirmation is one of the sacraments of initiation. As mandated by the Diocese of Raleigh, Candidates are to be involved a two year preparation process involving Remote and Proximate preparation. While Catholic schools provide education in theology, reinforce Catholic values, and promote practice of the Catholic faith, it is the parish community that is responsible for providing catechesis for the sacraments.
At Immaculate Conception and other parishes in the Diocese of Raleigh, a year of participation in the parish faith formation process constitutes the Confirmation Year I process – the year of Remote preparation. This year provides the foundation for sacramental catechesis, which is the focus of the proximate preparation and which takes place in year two – Confirmation Year II.
Year I involves exposure to the essentials of the faith with focus on preparation for reception of the Sacrament during regular faith formation sessions. Year I involves an completion of one stewardship project. Candidates in Year I are in ninth grade or beyond.
The year of Proximate preparation - Year II, involves exposure to the essentials of the faith with focus on preparation for reception of the Sacrament during regular faith formation sessions, completion of one stewardship opportunity, as well as participation in a Diocesan Confirmation day of reflection. Candidates in Year II are in tenth grade or beyond.
Commitment to all activities related to preparation is required. Consequently, youth will need to balance this commitment with their other obligations and activities and make some adjustments to them during this preparation period. Generally, celebration of the sacrament will be conducted during the Easter season on a date designated by the bishop.
